Join Us for the Third Annual Taste of St. Anthony!
Games for the kids; musical entertainment by Ted Grunloh, GOOD WOOD, and “friends,” (including Father Brian Alford and Father Sunder Ery); and cookbooks offering “Taste” recipes will be featured.
The “Taste” supports the journey of World Youth Day Pilgrims, a dozen St. Anthony high school students, who will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July, for an international celebration to see Pope Francis in one of his first public appearances.
“Taste” tickets are $10 for a dozen if bought before the event, or $12 for a dozen if purchased at the door. Tickets can be bought ahead of time from one of the World Youth Day Pilgrims, listed on the Taste of St. Anthony Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Taste-of-St-Anthony/182164688495007) , or at the Parish Office. Midland States Bank once again is generously sponsoring the event.
As another highlight of the “Taste,” premium tickets to see the Cardinals play the Texas Rangers on June 23, 2013, at Busch Stadium will be raffled. The lucky winner gets four seats, four rows behind home plate, along with free food and drink throughout the game, and VIP parking. Cardinals game raffle tickets are 1 for $10 or 3 for $20, and can be purchased from our Pilgrims (listed on Facebook) or at the Parish Office. Many thanks to Roy and Nancy Schmidt for providing the game tickets!
World Youth Day is a youth celebration Pope John Paul II started in 1986 as a way to inspire the youth and encourage them to live the teachings of Christ. Pope Francis will lead the young people, from many countries and nations around the globe, as they come together showing the universality of, and diversity within, the Catholic Church. It is a time for the youth to share their faith and be rejuvenated to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in their homelands. It is also a way to come to understand other cultures and spread peace and understanding throughout the world. The youth unite as one in their walk of faith, as they wave their countries’ and regions’ flags with pride. During the week leading up to the final mass at World Youth Day, the youth gather in catechesis to learn the teachings of the faith and celebrate in other festivities. The graces flow and the fruits are abundant because it is truly a pilgrimage in which self-sacrifice is an intricate part.
